This course, on assessment and symptom presentations, is part of the Collaborative Care for Refugees, Torture, and War Trauma Survivors in Primary Care eLearning Series. It has two main parts aimed at addressing these questions: screening and assessment tools and specific symptoms. Health care providers who bring a wide lens to understanding refugee patient concerns are more likely to detect quietly suffering patients whose underlying mental health needs are not being met. Providers need to cultivate both the general awareness and knowledge of common refugee concerns, as well as their dynamic sizing when working with any individual patient.
This course is based on the chapter Assessment and Symptom Presentation, from CVT’s Improving Well-Being for Refugees in Primary Care: A Toolkit for Providers. The content from the toolkit was updated and edited by Shruti Dasgupta, PhD, LP and Amy Kamel, MSW, LICSW to be used in this lesson.
Length of time for course section: 97 minutes
