The following course is the first of two courses on psychosocial wellbeing, and is part of the Collaborative Care for Refugees, Torture, and War Trauma Survivors in Primary Care eLearning Series. Psychosocial Wellbeing Part One will provide an overview of how to assess and attend to basic needs of refugee patients. This will include how to assess for the safety of your refugee patient, their family, and those around them. The course will discuss the role of social determinants of health (i.e., the non-medical conditions that impact one’s life and health), as well as how to assess your patients’ financial stability.
This course is based on the chapter, Attending to Basic Needs, from CVT’s Improving Well-Being for Refugees in Primary Care: A Toolkit for Providers. The content from the toolkit was updated and edited by Shruti Dasgupta, PhD, LP and Amy Kamel, MSW, LICSW to be used in this course.
Length of time for course section: 90 minutes
