Karen Carlson

Dr. Karen Carlson is a Senior Faculty Member in the Division of General Medicine at Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH) and Associate Professor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School. She founded an integrated practice focused on the primary care of women at MGH and provided primary care there for over three decades. As a medical practice director, she became interested in group models for providing care for chronic illness, and in Balint groups as way to train and support clinicians. Dr. Carlson is a credentialed Balint Group Leader and leads multiple groups for physicians and mental health professionals in the Boston area. She is active in the American Balint Society and in the training of Balint group leaders internationally.
