Gary Schoener has been a clinical psychologist for 50 years. For 37 years he served as Executive Director of the Walk-In Counseling Center which has assisted a large number of torture survivors and produced a training film on assisting survivors. Since 2010 he has served as Director of the Center’s Institute for Consultation & Training. He has done extensive consultation and training during the past five decades including training in many parts of North America, Europe, the Pacific, and Asia. His focus has been ethical and boundary issues in health care, social services, and various counseling fields. The Center is the only organization in the upper Midwest to have received the American Psychiatric Assn.’s Gold Achievement Award in Hospital & Community Psychiatry. The Center has the largest group of mental health professionals volunteering under one roof in the world.
