Description
The panelists in this recorded webinar are clinicians and academics who have been at the forefront in providing trauma-informed dentistry to survivors of significant human rights abuses through collaborations with Torture Treatment Programs in the US. There will be discussions of some of the common issues and problems facing survivors in terms of dental care (both through trauma and neglect), as well as best practices in engaging the population for these specialized services. Speakers will share their experiences of how to best engage dentistry students in these clinical processes. They will also discuss the processes by which they have created, maintained, and funded their initiatives.
Learning Objectives
After attending this webinar, participants will be able to:
- Understand challenges and issues facing SOT populations in terms of dental health.
- Develop proficiency in implementing best-practices for engaging SOT clients in dental processes and procedures, focusing on both clinical and administrative strategies.
- Collaborate with healthcare providers on referral and follow-up procedures
- Develop the skills to establish and sustain innovative models of funding.
