During the Virtual Town Meeting held on January 23, 2024, three insightful program presentations were featured, each delving into their distinctive initiatives aimed at supporting older survivors of torture within their respective communities. The event showcased the expertise of individuals dedicated to addressing the unique challenges faced by survivors. The presentations featured Sidney Liang and Rob Marlin from Lowell Community Health Center, providing valuable insights into their work with older Cambodian survivors. Jason Baker of the St. Louis Partnership for Survivors of Torture (Bilingual International Assistant Services) shared compelling perspectives on his efforts in assisting retired Bosnian survivors. Additionally, Edwin Hayes from the Carolina Survivor Clinic shed light on the critical topic of assessing the impact of trauma on language learning. Together, these presentations contributed to a comprehensive exploration of the multifaceted approaches being employed to address the needs of older survivors of torture.
