This webinar, from 9/25/2008, features Mmaabo Setshwaelo and Joris Miller of Community Alternatives, St. Louis, MO. It is presented as a part of the National Capacity Building (NCB) webinar series. NCB is a project of the Center for Victims of Torture.
This webinar use a two-tiered approach to Assertive Community Treatment (ACT) models in treating clients with a history of torture. The presenters describe the importance of the on-going treatment as well as developing a ‘constellation of support’ that is focused on targeted populations. The speaker also noted the importance of the provider in demonstrating services as well as preparing the client for treatment from other providers.
The results of the ACT methodology has been decreased hospitalization of patients, as well as increased independent living and retention within treatment programs. It is also reported that clients and their families are satisfied with this course of treatment.
