How can we as providers assure our clients have current and accurate information on vaccination?

In this webinar, Dr. Rajeev Bais and Dr.

Fundamentals of Providing Services to Torture Survivors eLearning

Fundamentals of Providing Services to Torture Survivors eLearning Series  has been funded by the Office of Refugee Resettlement (ORR) to provide staff at ORR-funded torture treatment programs, and other professionals, with a basic foundation in the knowledge and skills required to provide effective services to torture survivors. The lessons are directed toward staff members who are recently hired or new to working with torture survivors and are currently providing direct services to torture survivors.

Each lesson:

  • Is designed to give you information and resources to effectively serve your clients
  • Is designed to be taken at your own pace when you have time
  • Can be taken independently of the other lessons
  • Can be completed in one to two hours
  • Provides you with valuable post-lesson resources for further study

Office of Refugee Resettlement

The Services for Survivors of Torture program (SOT) is a program of the Office of Refugee Resettlement in the Division of Refugee Health. It is committed to assisting persons who have experienced torture abroad and who are residing in the United States, to restore their dignity and health and rebuild their lives as they integrate into their communities.

The Complex Care of a Torture Survivor in the United States: The Case of “Joshua.”

A new article published by Torture Journal, “The Complex Care of a Torture Survivor in the United States: The Case of “Joshua.”” was supported by the National Capacity Building (NCB) technical assistance project funded by the U.S. Office of Refugee Resettlement (ORR). The authors argue that in order to effectively treat torture survivors, providers must understand and address multiple and complexly related factors. A Complex Care Approach (CCA), an adaptation of the Chronic Care Model, is presented and applied to a composite case of a former child soldier from Liberia who survived torture and is in the United States. The CCA includes five domains, including the Trauma Story, Bio-medical, Psychological, Social, and Spiritual domains.
