Farewell to Advocates for Survivors of Torture and Trauma (ASTT)
We at the National Capacity Building Project were deeply saddened by the closure of ASTT on April 30, 2015. In its twenty years of service, ASTT was profoundly influential in the torture rehabilitation field. Notably, ASTT was a leader in strengths-based care for survivors of torture. Listen to the webinar by ASTT staff on strengths-based healing or read an article about the philosophy here.
ASTT was also an early adopter of the healing garden concept and built a small and beautiful space that was therapeutically beneficial to many of its clients. The Healing Garden inspired other centers to create similar spaces. Those seeking services in the Baltimore/DC area may contact the Torture Abolition and Survivors Support Coalition.
